Professionalism

The General medical Council outlines The Duties of a Doctor with clear guidance to maintain skills and expertise required as a practising surgeon.  We work to maintain these professional standards:

1. Knowledge, Skills and Performance

The care of our patients is our primary concern. We strive to provide an excellent standard of care, maintaining professional knowledge and   skills and working within the limits of our competence.

2. Safety and Quality

This is paramount with particular focus on patient safety, dignity and comfort.

3. Communication, Partnership and Teamwork

We treat patients as individuals, respecting their dignity and confidentiality. Working in partnership with patients we listen and respond to their concerns and preferences. We give patients information they want or need in a way that they can understand and we respect the patients right to decide about their treatment and care. We support patients to improve and maintain their own health.  Working with colleagues is of upmost importance to ensure best possible practice and care.

4. Maintaining Trust

We are open and honest, always acting with integrity. We are non-discriminatory towards patients and colleagues.  We are accountable for our professional practice and can always justify clinical decisions.
